Pattaya City Facts
Pattaya is a self governing special municipal area which covers the whole Tambon Nong Prue and Na Kluea and parts of Huai Yai and Nong Pla Lai. The city's economy benefits from its relative proximity to Bangkok.
In 2005 5.4 million visitors arrived in Pattaya. Pattaya receives a large number of repeat visitors - professional people, families, and retired couples. Increasing numbers come from the former Soviet Union and East Asia, the majority however are citizens of U.K., Germany, France and Scandinavia.
In 2007 101,378 inhabitants were registered. But that figure excludes the large number of Thais who work in Pattaya (many come and go for tourism related work) but remain registered in their hometowns, and many long-term expatriate visitors. Including non registered residents, the population numbers around 300,000 at any given time. |
